theft of two horses over the weekend from the Spicelands Riding School in Warwick.

The horses -- Rocky, a brown and white Appaloosa gelding, and Pepe, a chestnut-coloured quarterhorse gelding, both in their mid-teens -- were said to have been taken sometime between Sunday evening and early Monday morning from their stable.

Around 5 a.m. Monday morning owner/operator of Spicelands Judy Canale reported she came into work and noticed a securing chain had been undone and the horses missing.

The horses were later recovered along a stretch of the Railway Trail behind the Lantana Colony Club in Somerset. The woman was detained, interviewed, and subsequently released on Police bail.

Mrs. Canale told The Royal Gazette Rocky and Pepe were both a little tired and stressed from their adventure, but otherwise unharmed.

Rocky is a well-known trick horse and was one of the main attractions for the riding centre. He was originally brought to the Island to perform at the Agricultural Show some years ago.

Both horses are used primarily for riding lessons and trail rides, she said.

Police, who suspect more than one person was involved, are anxious to speak to any member of the public who may have seen the two horses being led around between late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
