PXRE Group Ltd. yesterday announced that Guy D. Hengesbaugh has joined the company as president of the company's Bermuda reinsurance company, PXRE Reinsurance Ltd., and executive vice president of PXRE Group.

In these roles, he will be in charge of underwriting for PXRE Reinsurance Ltd. and will focus on building the company's Bermuda reinsurance operations.

Mr. Hengesbaugh succeeds and will report to Jeffrey L. Radke, who was made PXRE group's president and chief operating officer in May of this year. Mr. Hengesbaugh was formerly president and chief executive officer of LaSalle Re Holdings Limited, which, prior to its merger with Trenwick Group, Ltd. in September 2000, specialised in property and casualty reinsurance on a worldwide basis, with a focus on property catastrophe excess of loss contracts.

Commenting on the announcement, Radke said: "We are delighted to name Guy to these new positions as part of our continued efforts to grow our book of business in Bermuda.

"Considering his industry experience, especially the perspective he has gained serving as the chief executive of a major Bermuda-based reinsurer with a similar market focus to our own, we believe Guy is uniquely qualified to lead our Bermuda reinsurance operations."

Prior to joining LaSalle, Hengesbaugh was with CNA Re underwriting in Chicago and London. He joined CNA in 1985 as an underwriter in the reinsurance division and in 1988, was named an underwriter with CNA's London-based reinsurance affiliate.

He serves as a director of R.V.I. Guaranty Co. Ltd., a Bermuda-based residual value insurance company.

Hengesbaugh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a Master of International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona.
