Kelly eases cup misery
tennis championships in Monterrey, Mexico, yesterday.
But whether that was enough to propel the four-member team to victory in their tie against Barbados was not known last night.
Bermuda spilt the two singles matches -- Kelly Holland won while Danielle Paynter lost -- and were to play Barbados in the deciding doubles match later in the evening.
Repeated attempts to reach the tournament desk at Chipinque Racquet Club, as well as the team's hotel room, were unsuccessful last night.
Coming off Monday's horrendous opening round tie against Mexico, Bermuda did gain some measure of respect yesterday when Holland, in her third straight Federation Cup appearance, defeated Marisa Howell 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.
With a chance to give Bermuda the victory, Paynter was then defeated 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 by Richelle Lesaleo.
On Monday, Paynter and Holland each lost 6-0, 6-0 to their Mexican opponents and the doubles team of Liz Osborne and Paynter fell by the same score to Jessica Fernandez and Melody Falco.
