supermarket received a suspended prison sentence and was fined when she appeared in Magistrates' Court last week.

Manchelle Simons pleaded guilty to stealing from the MarketPlace.

Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said Police were called to the Southampton supermarket at 5.30 p.m. on September 1 in response to a shoplifting complaint.

Simons was eventually arrested on September 21.

Defence counsel Mr. Nick Dill said that his client had taken only two pieces of chicken. And when she got home, she became nervous and threw those away, so she got no benefit from the theft.

Simons was unemployed and in a tight financial situation, said Mr. Dill. He noted that she had cooperated with Police, pleaded guilty to the offence, and apologised for the theft.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge replied that since Simons had three previous convictions, and had paid fines for them, he would issue a sentence of three months imprisonment suspended for two years.

He also fined her $50.

THIEVES RAID PEMBROKE OFFICES CRM Thieves raid Pembroke offices Police are investigating two thefts from Pembroke businesses last week.

Offices were broken into and filing cabinets ransacked. The thieves got away with $90 from one firm and $145 from the other.

Meanwhile, a thief snatched $34 in cash from a car dashboard after the owner left the vehicle parked on Scenic Heights Lane in Southampton.

The woman driver had been away from the car for just a short time when the theft happened late last Wednesday night.

MOTORCYCLIST FINED FOR FAULTY PARTS CTS Motorcyclist fined for faulty parts A St. George's man was fined $125 in Magistrates' Court last week for having defective motorcycle parts.

Shelton Dowling, 29, pleaded guilty to having a defective indicator, no horn, and defective brakes on his auxiliary cycle.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Dowling a total of $125 -- $25 for the faulty indicator, $50 for no horn, and a further $50 for the brakes.
