Pat on the back for triumphant athletes

Youth and Sport Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon congratulated sailors Mr.
Peter Bromby and Mr. Lee White for winning the Miami Olympic Star Class Regatta in Biscayne Bay, Florida last Sunday.
Ms Gordon also had plaudits for Mr. Brian Wellman, who jumped 17.05 metres to win the triple jump at the Sparkassen Cup indoor track and field meet in Stuttgart, Germany last weekend.
The Bermuda Track and Field Association was congratulated for hosting the CAC Cross-Country Championships at the Belmont Hotel this weekend, in which eight countries will take part.
Also in the House, Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams (PLP) asked that condolences be sent to the family of Mrs. Gladys Hillery Simons, who recently died at age 90.
The St. George's resident was active in the Gift Club and in St. Peter's Church, Mr. Williams said.
The St. George's North MP also sent congratulations to the Bermuda National Dance Theatre, which recently staged a gala performance in Philadelphia.
Education Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira congratulated Mr. Dean Minors, who was wicketkeeper for St. George's in the last Cup Match.
Dr. Terceira recently saw Mr. Minors play in Tynesdale, England, where he has helped his team move to the top of its division from near the bottom.
Dr. Terceira also congratulated the Bermuda Reading Association, which held its 13th conference on Saturday.
On a sad note, Dr. Terceira asked that condolences be sent to the family of well-known fisherman Mr. Robert W.P. (Bobby) Jones, who died recently.
Deputy Opposition Leader Ms Jennifer Smith congratulated Ms Melissa Gibbons, who is abroad working on her doctorate, for recently writing a book on identifying gifted black students.
And Ms Smith congratulated young Miss Denise Saunders, who was recently crowned Miss Allen University.
Mr. Trevor Moniz (UBP) sent condolences to the family of Mrs. Genovera (Genevive) Daniel of Smith's, who died recently at age 48, leaving her husband John and three sons.
Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge had praise for Mr. E. Kirk Cooper, who recently stepped down as chairman of the Tourism Board.
Mr. Cooper attended his first board meeting in 1972 and brought "leadership and commitment'' to the chairman's post, which he had held since 1983, Mr.
Woolridge said.
Mr. David Dodwell (UBP) asked that congratulations be sent to his seat-mate Mr. Moniz , whose wife had the couple's first child shortly before Christmas.
Mr. Dodwell also congratulated Ms Teri Seymour, who was recently named rooms director at the Sonesta Beach Hotel.
Dr. Ewart Brown (PLP) sent congratulations to his seat-mate, Ms Renee Webb , who recently completed the steps necessary to adopt a young daughter.
