BTTA impressed by Canadian coach
interest among youngsters during his clinics throughout the Island.
Mansfield Smith, president of Bermuda Table Tennis Association, said he was excited with the response he had received while making his rounds to schools and clubs.
"We are certainly getting the rewards we intended,'' said Smith. "He is a great coach. When we brought him in from Montreal, our main aim was to get him involved in the schools in particular.
"Our priority has always been to reach the youngsters on the Island. .. and it's happening with many schools asking for repeat appearances. But it's unfortunate that this week there's no school.'' In addition to holding clinics at the schools during the day, the 62-year-old Ternier is busy staging evening clinics for senior players.
Also gaining valuable experience from his teaching are the two Bermuda teams chosen for the upcoming US Open Championships to be held in Detroit from November 24-27.
A session was held last Saturday afternoon at Elliott School and more are planned at the same venue. Despite Ternier's busy schedule, there are still some open dates available and interested organisations are urged to call Smith at home (297-0518).
The current schedule of clinics is as follows: Tomorrow: St. George's CC to train Eastern Stars and Hamilton Parish, 7.30 p.m.
Wednesday: BPSA, open to public, 7.30 Thursday: The Centre, open to public, 7.00 Friday: St. George's Youth Centre, 7.30 Saturday: Elliott School, National teams, 11.00 a.m.-1.00 p.m.; Bermuda Open for boys and girls, 1.30 p.m.

The Bermuda Open National Championships for children aged 7-10, 11-13 and 14-17 will take place at Elliott School this Saturday.
The association, meanwhile, have been forced to make changes to the national teams chosen for the US Open. With Dennis Pearman and Derron Trott both unavailable, Rawle Frederick has been brought in as the only replacement in the A team. The changes in the B team see Roderick Masters and Mansfield Smith coming in for Fredericks and Calvin Butterfield.
