Whitney win the day

Whitney Institute were awarded the Bank of Bermuda Foundation WEAC Schools Track and Field Challenge shield at a special ceremony yesterday.

Over 260 participants from 21 schools took part in the meet held on Saturday, March 18 at the National Sports Centre, organised by the West End Athletic Club.

Somerset Primary, Whitney and Berkeley came out on top in the primary school, middle school and high school divisions respectively, with Whitney the overall champion school.

Kyle Webb and Sherri Burchall-Weldon ? both from Somerset Primary ? were crowned champion boy and girl after a succession of sterling performances throughout the Challenge.

Webb took part in the 200 and 100 metres as well as the long jump ? placing first in all three ? while Burchall-Weldon was first in her 100 metres and second in the 200 metres.

?We were very pleased that we were able to host this event again this year,? said WEAC president Clarence Smith.

?We look forward to continuing to provide our young people with positive venues that provide a healthy element of competition.?
