Writing teacher to present to middle schoolers
A motivational speaker is bringing his act to Bermuda to inspire the Island's students to improve their writing skills. Erik Cork, a former writing instructor for the University of Houston, will perform Rap, Rhythm And Rhyme: Rebuilding The Writing Foundation, to all public school P6 pupils and middle school students.
It is described as an intensely fast-paced workshop empowering students to systematically organise their thoughts and communicate them effectively on paper.
Mr. Cork combines music, movement and rap with audience participation and is apparently well-known across the US.
He has conducted writing workshops for more than 100,000 elementary and secondary students, as well as professional educators, representing more than 500 school districts and universities throughout the States.
Mr. Cork is a protégé of Houston playwright Thomas Meloncon and a Master Teacher with the New York-based International Center for Leadership in Education, founded by education reform pioneer Willard Daggett.
He is also an associate with Texas Southern University's Center for Effective Pedagogy for African-American Learners, and a presenter with the Ohio-based Visionary Leaders Institute.
His presentations take place at Whitney Institute on Thursday, May 8, for P6 students, and on the following day for middle school students.
