For the first time in many years, Whitney Institute Middle School had an entry for the 2008 May 24th parade.

The school's Drum Line and Spirit Dancers were organised by Sammy Degraff (music teacher and band organiser) and Oneka Trott (functional skills teacher and choreographer).

After weeks of learning and practicing dances, the students found all of their hard work and dedication paid off on the day.

As a member of Whitney's Spirit Dancers I can say that Mrs. Trott put us through it all. Sweat, tears and a couple of broken hearts, not to mention some sore legs!

We were determined to do our best and keep up with the beats from the drummers. With that in mind, we pushed though it with a special stride in our step, a smile on our faces, and a beat in out hearts. We are Whitney!
