New fundraiser to help pay off road accident victim Dion’s bills

Accident victim Dion Ford is on the road to recovery.

Fundraising by the friends and family of accident victim Dion Ford continues tomorrow.The father-of-three sustained serious internal injuries when he and his best friend, Lonario Simmons, were involved in a head-on crash in Hamilton Parish on Father’s Day.The 33-year-old was flown to Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital for emergency surgery and treatment.Family friends this week told The Royal Gazette that Mr Ford is now on crutches and is regaining his mobility with the aid of a physical therapist.His efforts are being supported by close family members there with him.He is expected to continue his rehabilitation at that hospital and at Spaulding Rehabilitation, for another three to four weeks.A fundraiser to help with his medical expenses was held last month. It was decided to hold a second fundraiser this weekend, with Mr Ford’s birthday on August 19.Subsequent events will take place on August 27 and September 10.Tomorrow night’s Spotlight for a Cause: Stage Leads event is to be hosted by CKC Corporation.It will take place at Whitney Institute Middle School hall. All proceeds will go towards Mr Ford’s medical expenses.Organiser Cha’Von Clarke said: “Over 100 people have come together to perform, organise, promote and manage the special events for Dion.”The night will feature “extraordinary local talents” and include gospel, reggae, hip-hop and dance performances.Said Ms Clarke: “The event will feature numerous local artists such as Sia Spence, Maurita Andre, Zion, Kombat and the III Kings, Freddie Mallory, Seventh-day Adventist Choir and BLAC,” she said.“To make the event special for Dion’s birthday, the Bermuda Gombeys will perform.”Doors open at 7pm. Showtime is 7.30pm.Advance tickets are available at Kit n’ Caboodle: Children $10, adults $15.People who purchase tickets at the door will pay $10 for children, $20 for adults and $30 for VIP seating.
