19 Whitney Institute pupils complete three days of training in the Coaching for Success initiative
Determined young students of Whitney Institute got a taste of the nine to five workday this week, as part of the Mirrors programme. The 19 M1 pupils were the latest to complete a gruelling three-day training session for the Coaching for Success initiative.Last week, 34 M2 students at Sandys Secondary School finished theirs. The ten- and 11-year-olds last night celebrated the completion of their training, after their long days in the course room.Explained Mirrors head Kim Jackson: “The idea, from the Mirrors perspective, is taking the success of the older students and developing a preventive programme for younger students, so they can focus on their education.“They chose to come into the programme because there’s something they want out of this for themselves.”Full graduation comes after another eight months’ further work with their coaches, Ms Jackson said.“They’ve been stretching their personal comfort zones, learning how to handle their mistakes, working on their judgment of self and others.”The programme helps middle schoolers overcome difficulties such as talking in class or not getting on with teachers. The Mirrors programme remains in urgent need of volunteers of all types. To join in, contact Carla Zuill at clzuill@gov.bm, or call 294-9295.
