for rewards that will benefit their schools and the community.

Students from Bermuda Institute, Sandys Secondary, Warwick Academy, and Warwick Secondary will meet at Mount St. Agnes auditorium next Tuesday night for the semifinals of the eighth Secondary School Quiz Contest.

Defending champions Berkeley Institute will meet runners-up Mount St. Agnes and third-place holders, Saltus, and Bermuda High School next Thursday night.

The contest, hosted by the Youth, Sport & Recreation Ministry, will require students to answer questions about history, geography, personalities, music, art, wild card, sports and current events.

The top six teams will compete in the finals next Saturday at The Princess hotel.

The winning school will receive two computers and lunch on a local cruise. The second-place school will win one computer and the third-place school will receive a $500-cheque from the Youth and Sport Ministry to purchase books for their school library.

Students of the winning team and second-place team will also receive commemorative coins from Bermuda Monetary Authority.

Silver bowls will be presented to any student who correctly answers all of his or her questions.

The Royal Gazette will give a newspaper subscription, a $250 voucher to purchase school library books, free advertising and a $50 gift voucher to the team scoring the highest points in the current event category.

And John Barritt & Son will give free sodas or juices to every student of the school that wins the personalities, music and art, and wild card categories.

Other sponsors of the competition, which will begin at 7.30 p.m. all nights, are Bermuda Electric Light Company, Bermuda Computer Services, the Argus Group of Companies, and Meyer Agency.

The public is invited to come out and support students during the quiz nights.

There is no admission. But donations will be accepted at the finals and later be presented to a local charity chosen by the contestants.

A Youth and Sport Department spokesman said the Ministry was "extremely grateful to the various local businesses for their prize donations''.
