A security guard who stole from the Bank of N.T. Butterfield was given a conditional discharge in Magistrates' Court.

Valerie Tucker, 39 of Derwent Lane, Devonshire pleaded guilty to the charge on December 22.

Tucker took $292.50 in coins from the Rosebank branch in-house cashier area while she was working shortly after 5 a.m. on December 4.

During her appearance in court, Prosecutor Sgt. Earl Kirby said she was later arrested and admitted to the offence.

Tucker, who is now unemployed, said she needed the money for debts. "I know I was wrong for what I did,'' Tucker said to the then acting Magistrate the Wor.

Cheryl-Ann Mapp. "I have paid the money back. I don't know why I did it. I owed other people money and I was behind in my rent.'' Mrs. Mapp said: " We all have financial stress, Mrs. Tucker, but how we go about dealing with it is what differentiates us. By stealing you have no found yourself without any income to deal with it.'' She ordered a social inquiry report on Tucker.

On Friday, Mrs. Mapp told her that she had done a very silly thing. "I am taking in to account the struggles you have found yourself in. Your job prospects are now quite limited,'' Mrs. Mapp said.

She gave Tucker a conditional discharge for 18 months.
