A taxi driver admitted operating his taxi while drunk at Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Williston Winslow Randolph Furbert was driving his taxi on Cedar Avenue on February 24 when he struck a car.
When Police arrived on the scene they noticed he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol and asked him to take a breathalyser. His reading was 149 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80 milligrams.
Furbert apologised for his actions and was fined $800. His driver's license will also be revoked for a year.
A self-confessed heroin addict pleaded guilty to a myriad of charges yesterday. Twenty-two-year-old Steven James O'Neil pleaded guilty to 14 of the 15 charges against him at Magistrates' Court. He admitted stealing a white helmet and Bank of Butterfield cheque book on February 23 from a bike owned by John Dunleavy. He also admitted to forging cheques totalling more than $2,900. Mr. Dunleavy noticed the forged cheques on his online bank account and notified the bank and Police. The bank used surveillance camera's to identify the defendant. Police attempted to arrest the young man but he was not at his home address. He admitted stealing items from Global House, in Pembroke, between March 1 and March 2. He also admitted to stealing a digital camera and other electronics worth $1,200. He was discovered in a house in Pompano Beach Road, Sandys, on March 9 by a worker who confronted him and asked him to leave the property. The worker later saw O'Neil trying to break into another room on the property. When he tried to stop him the defendant put his hand under his shirt and yelled: "Come any closer and you will see blood," the court heard. Fearing for his safety the worker allowed O'Neil to run off. He was later arrested at his home in Berkeley Road and admitted to the offences. O'Neil admitted he was a heroin addict yesterday and a social inquiry report and drug assessment report were ordered to assess his problems. He was remanded in custody and will return to Magistrates' Court to be sentenced on May 9.
