Jones to head IBA committee

Chair of The International Bar Association's Committee 5 on Individual Tax And Estate Planning, Wills, Trust and Succession).

The appointment was made on 27th October 2000 and Mrs. Jones will serve as chair for a period of two years from 17th September 2000 to September 2002.

Committee 5 has some 600 members in over 70 countries encompassing common civil and Islamic Law jurisdictions.

The Committee is concerned with how the law might develop in connection with the following matters: inheritance rights and succession rules, will making, lifetime giving, Trusts, creditor claims against trusts and estates, regulatory compliance affecting trusts, including the tracing of proceeds of crime, charities, foundations and not-for-profit organisations, taxation of individuals, tax treaties, property rights of spouses and co-habitees and conflict of law rules.

Mrs. Jones joined AS&K in 1984 as an associate and has been a partner since 1990.

She is leader of the firm's Trust & Financial Structures Department and is a past member of law reform committees addressing the reformation of the law of trusts, wills, succession and administration of estates in Bermuda.

Since 1997 she has been a co-chair of the joint International Bar Association and American Bar Association's International Wealth Transfer Practice Conference, held annually in London.

She is a frequent speaker at conferences on a variety of topics, including trusts, asset protection, protectors, changing residence to achieve an estate plan, retirement planning, purpose trusts, insurance trusts, setting up and monitoring anti-money laundering procedures.

*** John Ross has recently joined Cadilly Consultants Ltd/Cadilly Management Services Ltd. as a director.

Cadilly provides accounting, bookkeeping, corporate secretarial, personal administrative and financial services as well as independent investment advisors.

Mr. Ross' role will also entail dealing directly with clients who require a personal financial manager or estate planning and settlement.

Terry Reynolds has been appointed General Manager of Bermuda Glass Company Limited.

Employed as a design engineer just over a year ago Mr. Reynolds "has attained an intimate working knowledge of the Company'' according to its president Larry Davis.

Mr. Reynolds is a civil engineer with over 20 years experience in the construction industry both locally and overseas.

He has served as project engineer or construction manager for the pre-contract phases of both the current Ace and XL projects, Crown House, Richmond House, Mint Flower Building, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, the Waterfront Development, The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and the New Testament Church of God.
