Sixth annual 'Take Back the Night' walk takes place Friday
Marchers will take to Hamilton’s streets on Friday night, in support of an anti-violence walk observed around the world.‘Take Back the Night’ aims to raise awareness of the women and children who fear to walk on their own streets. Now in its sixth year, the walk is also an opportunity for hundreds, including men, to join collectively in their commitment to the rights of others.Women’s Resource Centre director Elaine Williams said Bermuda’s march coincides with similar walks held worldwide during October.“This event is a great way to show the community that enough is enough,” she said. “We want the violence to stop. If you’re passionate about the safety and well being of the women and children you love, walk with us.”Walkers will set out from Victoria Park at 6.30pm. In the event of rain, the march will take place on October 28.Organisers said the walk usually takes 45 minutes to an hour, and advised bringing comfortable shoes for the walk around the city.Participants are asked to call 295-3882 to sign up.Useful website: www.wrcbermuda.com.
