Dear Sir,

The December 2, 2016 protests in Bermuda (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Am I the only one wondering what the difference is between the Trump supporters storming the Capitol Building to prevent lawmakers from passing a law they disagree with and our own Progressive Labour Party “rent-a-mob” that in December 2016 blocked access to the House of Assembly and prevented our democratically elected government from enacting legislation?

Both took the law into their own hands to stop the democratic process.

The difference?

In America, they are hunted down and prosecuted. In Bermuda, they are hailed as heroes and handed large, undisclosed sums of money in financial compensation.

Time for some self-reflection by our government?
