?Blood was coming out of me like the Niagara Falls?

A man told the Supreme Court he was knocked unconscious and robbed outside a Hamilton night-spot by two teenagers. Marlon Rewan then claims he tried to get back his stolen items ? but during a violent confrontation two of his brothers were hurt in a machete attack.

Pembroke man Kenneth Caines, 20, is accused of two counts of unlawfully wounding with the attempt to do grievous bodily harm, one count of robbery and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

The allegations relate to an incident on November 29, 2003.

Marlon Rewan told the seven woman, five man jury that in the early hours of the morning Kenneth Caines along with then-16-year-old Ryan Burchall approached him while outside Captain?s Lounge looking for a confrontation.

?I turned around, asking ?What?s up? What?s the deal- what?s happening?? I guess everyone was in the mood for fighting. I said ?no weapons?. I could recognise Ryan had two bottles in his hands, and Kenneth had a helmet,? said Marlon.

Marlon Rewan, 30, was knocked unconscious by the young men and when he regained consciousness he noticed his wallet and several items of jewellery had been stolen.

He received medical attention for his wounds, which included a swollen lip and a large bump to the back of his head.

Marlon Rewan accompanied by brothers Stevon, 27, and Devon, 32, then took matters into their own hands ? something defence lawyer Elizabeth Christopher called ?street justice?. He went to Burchall?s home on Devon Lane, Devonshire to get back the stolen items.

With the help of Burchall?s parents Marlon Rewan was able to get back a majority of his jewellery.

?The father apologised to me, his mother apologised to me, Ryan apologised to me and we were getting ready to leave,? said Marlon Rewan.

However, as the brothers were about to leave the house, a metallic orange Subaru pulled up, blocking the Rewan?s car into the driveway.

Caines got out of the orange Subaru allegedly carrying a machete, and a violent dispute broke out.

In the end both Stevon and Devon Rewan were sliced with the machete, Stevon was cut across the head, while Devon was hit across the hand, whilst trying to protect himself with a four foot wooden pole.

?After that it went into complete mayhem. When I say mayhem everyone went into fight mode. Everyone just started scuffling about and throwing their swings,? said Devon Rewan, while explaining his testimony.

Stevon Rewan began his account of events yesterday and told the jury about his head injury saying: ?The chop penetrated my skin and went straight to my skull.

?It sounded like two pieces of metal being hit together. Blood was coming out like water, like the Niagara Falls,? said Stevon Rewan.

Stevon is the last of the three brothers to take the stand and will continue today to be cross examined by Ms Christopher.
