Transport official quits TCD

The shock news that Transport Control Department director Donald Dane retired from the post was confirmed with the appearance of an advertisement for the job in the Official Gazette last week.

But attempts by The Royal Gazette to discover why Mr. Dane suddenly stepped down have been repeatedly blocked by both Mr. Dane himself and Government Information Services, which has refused to comment on the matter.

When questioned about his retirement recently Mr. Dane said: "I would suggest that you speak to the Secretary to the Cabinet and head of the Civil Service, Stanley Oliver.'' Mr. Dane is currently abroad and unavailable for comment.

The Director of the Transport Control Department is responsible for the examination, registration, and licensing of motor vehicles and drivers under the law.
