Empress skips Bermuda call

Due to the congestion on Hamilton docks, the cruise ship The Nordic Empress skipped its visit to Bermuda altogether and headed for the Bahamas.

The Royal Gazette was not able to obtain a passenger count, but the ship was scheduled to arrive in Bermuda on Monday.

The cruise ship Zenith arrived as scheduled on Monday morning in Hamilton. The ship is carrying 1,486 passengers and will remain in Hamilton until weather conditions improve. It was scheduled to leave the Island tomorrow for New York.

The Norwegian Crown also arrived at Penno's Wharf, St. George's on Monday and moved to Hamilton later that afternoon. It is carrying 1,059 passengers and is expected to remain there until tropical storm Arlene passes before leaving for New York.

Now docked at Penno's Wharf is Nordic Majesty . The ship arrived yesterday morning with 1,249 passengers on board. It left for Halifax, Nova Scotia late in the afternoon.

The container ship Bermuda Islander will arrive tomorrow. The ship is coming from Salem, New Jersey and is carrying 120 containers and 23 refrigerate containers.

The container ship Oleander arrived on Sunday. It was carrying 157 containers with 46 refrigerated containers, 29 cars and six trailers with structurised steel. The ship has already left the Island.

Royal Navy support vessel Gold Rover will be arriving at Dockyard tomorrow afternoon and will leave next Monday.

Two naval fighting vessels will also be arriving in local waters this week.

HMS Marlborough will be berthed at the Dockyard. The Type 23 frigate will shift to Hamilton to take part in the Queen's Birthday celebrations. It is expected to leave on June 22.

The other vessel, HMS Northumberland , also a Type 23 frigate, arrived at 4 p.m. yesterday and berthed at Dockyard and is expected to leave on Friday.
