Tucker film wins award
?Adventure is My Life?, a film produced by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute and the New England Aquarium, has won the Platinum Best of Show award in the annual Aurora Awards film competition in the United States. The film, which offers a first hand looks at the pioneering discoveries of one of Bermuda?s most unique and accomplished heroes, Teddy Tucker (pictured), won the award in the biography/documentary section of the competition.
This documentary had its debut in October last year at the BUEI. The hour-long film is narrated by author and close friend of Mr. Tucker?s, Peter Benchley, and includes rarely seen underwater footage from around Bermuda.
The Aurora Awards is an international competition designed to recognise excellence in the film and video industries and specifically targets special interest entertainment and corporate sponsored film and video. The judging functions are performed by panels of working film and video professionals that are set up in major cities across the United States and most are writers, producers or directors who are previous award winners.
Judges with specific proficiencies are matched with specific categories, for example music composers sit on the original music panels and the basic premise of the judging structure for the Aurora Awards is receiving the endorsement of your peers that your work is outstanding. Programmes are judged on a fixed scale in areas of creativity, message effectiveness and technical excellence.
Winners can either be awarded a Platinum Best of Show or a Gold Award, but the Best of Show is the highest honour given. Only about one in ten nominees receive this honour, while about two out of ten receive the Gold Award.
