Inmates get their hands on keys to rehabilitation programme
Zurich Investment Services has donated six computers to the Prison Fellowship Bermuda to be used at the prison farm computer lab.
Prison Fellowship Bermuda founder and chairman Jack Harris said the charity has been working with inmates, ex-inmates and families for 17 years.
The charity solicits items from companies to assist in the inmate?s rehabilitation programmes.
Department of Corrections Education Co-ordinator Sharon Wilkinson said she was delighted to receive a donation of the six desktop computers.
?We have been trying to set up the Computer Lab since the beginning of the year and the computers made the dream come true.?
Jack Harris thanked Terry Norsworthy of Zurich Investment Services who gave of his time to ensure any technical bugs were ironed out before the hand-over.
Mr. Norsworthy said: ?It was a pleasure to be able to recycle the computers and put them to such good use.?
Assistant Commissioner Clyde Wilson said: ?It is through the support of companies like Zurich Investment Services and Prison Fellowship Bermuda that the Department of Corrections can continue to provide much needed rehabilitation programmes at our three correctional facilities.?
Prison Fellowship Bermuda solicits direct financial donations for programmes such as the Inmate?s Children?s Back to School programme completed in August this year involving over 30 children.
They are currently appealing for funds for the Inmates Angel Tree Christmas gift programme which is set to help more than 60 children.
