Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is accepting entries for the tenth Biennial Charman Prize, the museum said today.

The theme of this year’s $10,000 prize is “Bermuda, Our Island, in a Changing World”. Masterworks said it was encouraging visual artists of all abilities, working in all techniques and mediums, to exhibit and share their works about and inspired by Bermuda.

“The Charman Prize offers the artist an opportunity to create, explore and display their art in an open forum, ” said Tom Butterfield, the founder of Masterworks. “Additionally, the prize draws out as wide a cross section of the community as possible. It fosters and encourages conversation and truly shows how art is for all.”

Established to honour, support and encourage local and resident artists, the competition is sponsored by patron, Mr. John Charman, a local businessman and avid art collector.

The application deadline is May 3 and Masterworks will take delivery of the physical art works between May 17 to May 19.

There are five judging criteria, and total prize monies of $18,000. Categories are: design and composition, use of material, distinctive and convincing style, inspiration, and the Charman Prize “Best in Show”, which is valued at $10,000.
