Telco trio romp to relay win
Telephone Company team, Telco Tones, to an emphatic triumph in The Royal Gazette Corporate Community Relay yesterday.
Smith and his team-mates Sheldon Thompson and Andre Manders completed a course of around 11 miles in a combined time of one hour, four minutes and 51 seconds, nearly five minutes ahead of the non-competitive team Big Bucks, a trio of Saltus students.
Smith ran the first, four-loop leg, Thompson the second three-loop leg and Manders the final two-loop leg on a course which started and finished at the National Stadium. All three were fastest on their legs.
Forty teams of three took part in the popular annual event.
Second-placed company Olympia Capital, led by John Wassenaar, who finished around a minute behind Smith in the first leg, were also the fastest mixed team. Their combined time was 1:18:17.
The first leg also featured an impressive performance from 15-year-old Mark Morrison, who was third to hand over the baton in 30:10.
Top local company team was seventh-placed Conyers, Dill & Pearman, who finished in 1:21:27.
The police team C Ya won the trophy for the first public service team over the finishing line, while the winning exempt company team was Two Aces and an Ace, from Ace Insurance. They finished 10th overall in 1:24:10.
