Four years ago, singer Marcelle Clamens booked City Hall for a recital by her vocal students. Today, she is still booking the same venue ? but for what has now become a 'Talent Explosion' featuring not only her students but an ever-growing list of Bermudians from various branches of the arts.

All the participants are only too happy to share the spotlight with the students. In fact, the word is out that this is a "must" event, with the result that people are now enquiring about being included.

"It started out with just my students and by the second year we included two guests. This time there will be ten guests or more," a proud Mrs. Clamens says. "If I see talent that I think should be showcased I ask them to become a guest."

One thing that hasn't changed is the emceeing of twin brothers Dwayne and Wayne Caines, who have been hosting the show from the beginning, and whose snappy blend of humour and commentary has made them popular "fixtures".

This year's extended line-up includes the Bermuda National Youth Jazz Ensemble, the Bermuda School of Russian Ballet, the gospel jazz band Hidden Agenda, reggae group Jah Youth and Jade, actor Douglas Jones; poet Krystal McKenzie; 2006 Teen Idol Ben Lusher, the Menuhin Foundation Youth Orchestra, singer Lamont Robinson and Ricky Spence's Salsa Dancers.

"To have all this wonderful talent under one roof, and from so many different genres, is just fabulous," Mrs. Clamens says. "My husband and I want to continue making this an annual event. In fact, I want to thank him for his wonderful support. In addition to producing the music and playing the drums in the house band, he also does all of the footwork for me."

The owner of Marcelle Clamens Vocal Studio is also enthusiastic about the talents of her vocal students, who include Cindy and Joy Smith, whose fort is gospel; Khalilah Smith who has successfully developed R&B, musical theatre and jazz; Makeila Astwood, a rapper who is developing classical & R&B; Nichole Simmons who is perfecting her R&B, and Tsilala Graham-Haynes, who is studying classical and R&B.

Hidden Agenda is a gospel jazz band whose musician members are Conrad Roach, John Woolridge, Albert Joell, Neville Gaines, Troy Seymour and Dainavon Tuzo.

Talent Explosion is set for 7.30 p.m. on November 9 at City Hall. Tickets ($25) are available at the Christian Bookstore and the Music Box, and the price includes a post-performance reception with complimentary refreshments.
