The founder of a programme designed to help young people improve their writing and communication skills is on the Island for talks about setting the scheme up in Bermuda.

Ms. Robie Scott, founder of World News Share, is meeting with teachers and the programme, already has the support of US Consul General, Gregory Slayton.

World News Share, which is sponsored by Charleston, South Carolina's Post and Courier, Rotary International, Rotary Club of North Charleston and The Royal Gazette, is a programme intended to help students in Bermuda and Charleston develop informed opinions about their own communities and to improve their writing, research and communication skills.

She has recently met with Mr. Slayton who expressed an interest in the programme.

He said: "This is a novel idea and I look forward to seeing the programme in action.

"I especially look forward to measuring the results with an idea to expanding the programme.

"World News Share will provide another way to strengthen education in both communities and it deserves our full support."

Several classrooms at CedarBridge Academy and Warwick Academy will be part of the pilot project, which will operate for five weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters.
