Cafe Lido goes back to basics

nobody can resist. "We are going back to basics -- olive oil, fresh produce and a light Mediterranean cuisine is our goal.'' This is exactly what they have done, I have never had a dinner that was so light yet filling. Cafe Lido makes their pasta, bread and pastry by hand, fresh every day. Quality is the word that the restaurant lives by. Food cargo is flown in, although in the winter months, it is a lot harder to get hold of fresh produce. Ethnic foods and special ideas are incorporated everyday. With a team of chefs from Switzerland, Italy, Germany, the Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Bermuda, ideas or different styles are constantly being introduced. The food at the Cafe Lido is special and different, each main course incorporates different garnish, trademark foods. "We want people to know we are unique,'' said Mr. Bottelli. "Our quality of food is outstanding, and we are fabulous mixers, we make food to please the customers and compliment the main course.'' Mr. Bottelli and the manager of Cafe Lido Mr. Gioacchino Di Meglio are very dedicated to Bermuda and its reputation in the food world. "When people pay the money they do to come to Bermuda and don't get good food, what will they think?'' Mr. Di Meglio asked. My dinner was delicious, probably the best dinner I have had in Bermuda, and it started off with Warm Sword Fish Cafe Lido offers fresh food and super service artistically in a circular pattern. And my main course, a pasta dish called Vermicelli with blackened tiger shrimps, contained angel hair spaghetti tossed with Rapini, olives, sun dried tomatoes and virgin olive oil. Dessert was strawberries dashed in rum with a scoop of vanilla ice cream -- a great end to the meal. Cafe Lido has a wide variety of foods including pasta, seafood, meat and poultry as well as a wonderful dessert menu. Home made grilled seafood sausage with lobster, shrimps and scallop sausage with saffron risotto, fennel and perrod sauce is one of the best sellers in the seafood category. Variety is the spice of life, and Cafe Lido offers Wisconsin braised duck and broiled dijon mustard marinated veal pailliard as two of their many meat and poultry dishes. Grilled wild boar sausage with sauteed mixed beans in a white wine and garlic sauce is a favourite appetiser. Desserts range from exotic foreign desserts to a selection of wines and cheeses, ports, cognac and armagnac. The lunch menu is smaller and compact with dishes such as calamari, gourmet sandwiches, fish, shrimp, steaks and chicken. Although the prices are expensive, you pay for what you get in Bermuda, and you get a great meal at Cafe Lido accompanied with excellent service and an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else.
