A retrial has been ordered for Kellan Lewis, the one teenager who remains accused of murdering Kellon Hill.

The jury that heard Lewis’s original trial was unable to reach a verdict in July.

Today, Chief Justice Richard Ground agreed to a request from Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field for Lewis to stand trial again.

Mr. Hill, an 18-year-old student, was killed by a stab wound to the heart inflicted upon him as he left a party at Elbow Beach last August 8.

Lewis, 17, is accused of murder and knife possession. He denies the charges.

Four other teenagers were originally accused alongside him of murder and weapons possession. However, the trial judge, Charles-Etta Simmons, ordered the jury to acquit them at the close of the prosecution case, on the basis that they had no case to answer based on the evidence.

Lewis, of Sandy’s, has been on bail since the last trial ended with no verdict, and the Chief Justice allowed him to remain on bail.

The terms of his bail mean he has to obey a 9.30pm to 6.30 a.m curfew, live with his mother, report to the Police three times per week and surrender his travel documents. He is also barred from contacting witnesses in the case and the other former defendants.
