Social Club line up the stars
Young Men?s Social Club were the biggest winners during the off-season, acquiring the services of several top players.
The Angle Street club, currently on a tour in the West Indies, profited handsomely with former St.George?s Cricket Club and Bermuda skipper Charlie Marshall and the explosive left-handed bat of Glenn Blakeney leading an entourage of players moving over to the perennial cellar -dwellers of domestic cricket.
In addition to Marshall and Blakeney, Southampton Rangers? pacer Kenny Phillip, Western Stars seamer Kevin Hurdle, Bailey?s Bay batsmen Desmond Crockwell and Jahmiko Marshall, Police?s Terry Thomas and Cleveland County player David Trott III have all joined the ranks of Social Club, now expected to be candidates for promotion to the Premier Division alongside the likes of Somerset, PHC and First Division Knockout Cup champions Legtrappers.
However, while Stars are certain to rue the lost services of Hurdle, the St.John?s Road club could find solace in the fact the intended move by top spinner Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock to Southampton Rangers has been ?disapproved? by the Board for as yet undisclosed reasons.
Another club to have pocketed a few new faces are Premier Division newcomers Devonshire Recreation Club.
The former powerhouse of local cricket have acquired the services of Southampton Rangers? Ricky Brangman to fill the capacity of player/coach while the likes of promising Somerset Bridge all-rounder Dean Stephens, Stars? Phillip Thomas and Police?s Jodie Maronie are also headed for what is hoped will be greener pastures at the Den.
Police?s veteran all-rounder and president of the Central Counties Dennis Archer has now signed on at Stars along with team-mate Roshan Perera, where the duo could prove to be suitable replacements for Hurdle with the cork.
First Division club Warwick have lost the services of promising all-rounder Allan Douglas Jr. to St.George?s, while Daniel Caines ? suspended last season for a matter unrelated to cricket ? has joined ranks with neighbouring Premier Division and Belco Cup champions Southampton.
Cleveland County have lost Delano Trott to St.David?s but have gained Levar Talbot from Social Club, while Willow Cuts secured the services of Bridge?s Ryan Shepherd ? son of former Police and Somerset Cricket Club powerful hitter Tyrone Smith. Breaking ranks at Cuts is part -time wicket-keeper Robert Lambe who has crossed the street to Somerset Cricket Club.
Also on the move to Somerset are Flatt?s? Azeem Pitcher and Shoron Hunt who have now left PHC with a huge void to fill in attack.
The Bermuda Cricket Board transfer deadline expired March 31.
