Seawater samples come back clean

Bermuda’s beaches: Clean bill of health in latest Government tests

The latest water samples from the Island’s beaches have come back clear, Government said on Thursday.

And bacteria counts were said to be “very low” for all ten beaches checked.

A Government spokeswoman said samples taken on Wednesday ranged between zero to six cfu/100ml of water.

Environmental Protection Agency guidelines say that a single day’s sample should be below 104cfu/100ml.

The spokeswoman added: “These results have now been uploaded to the Government website.

“Results from water sampling on carried out on Tuesday also determined the water quality to be well within acceptable limits for bathing and are posted to the Government portal.”

Samples were taken at Elbow Beach, Grape Bay, Warwick Long Bay, Horseshoe Bay, Hungry Bay, John Smith’s Bay, Clearwater Beach, Shelly Bay, Tobacco Bay and Snorkel Park.

The spokeswoman said: “Additionally, staff members from the Department of Parks checked all beaches again today (Thursday) for greaseballs and found no greaseballs present.

“Park crews will continue to check beaches over the holiday weekend.”
