The ornate iron tower positioned on Harrington Sound Road is undergoing a facelift.
Ornamental Iron Works are renovating the tower, which was originally owned by Deepdene Manor — a hotel which operated until the 1970s.
Ornamental Iron Works manager Robin Gray said the tower needed to be repaired after damage incurred by corrosion and rust.
“It was an American millionaire who built Deepdene Manor, also the boathouse across the street from the hotel,” explained Mr Gray.
Charles Ledyard Blair and his wife, who was related to the Bermudian Butterfield family, built the estate during the 1920s.
It’s currently owned by the Condominium Association of Deepdene Manor.
For Ornamental Iron Works, the work provides a new challenge.
“Usually we don’t do restoration work,” said Mr Gray.
The owners plan to put the tower back in place on Harrington Sound Road after the repairs are completed, hoping to prevent the decay from getting worse.
“Put you outside for 100 years you probably won’t look too good neither,” joked Mr Gray.
There is no exact time frame for the repairs but they are expected to be complete in the coming months.
