Learn how to manage student behaviour
Over one hundred people have signed up to attend a conference on managing student behaviour to be held this weekend.
The two-day conference being held at Fairmont Hamilton Princess is aimed at educators, mental health professionals, social workers, parents and others interesting in exploring neurological links to problems such as attention deficit disorder, aggressive disorder, depression and other mental health issues.
"We've had a great response," said Sarah Norfleet of the Chamberlain School of Massachusetts - a co-sponsor of the conference with Benedict Associates.
However, Ms Norfleet said there are still places available for those interested and even some scholarship money for those who cannot afford the $275 fee.
The key speaker at the conference is Dr. John Ratey, a Harvard neuro-psychiatrist who has published six books on understanding the links between the brain and behaviour.
While the terms may sound medical and intimidating, the content of the conference is actually designed for the lay man and will particularly focus on proper diagnosis and treatment options which are available. Ms Norfleet said the bulk of the participants are from Bermuda while a small number are flying in from the United States, including six special education schools which will be exhibiting materials.
