Man who assisted Police released without charge

A 30-year-old man who was said this week to be "assisting Police with their inquiries" over the triple shooting on Court Street has been released without charge, understands.

A 26-year-old woman and two men aged 21 and 30 ? all from Pembroke ? needed surgery for gunshot wounds after the attacker opened fire in the Swinging Doors nightclub in the early hours of Monday.

The community was left in shock after the incident, with locals commenting that they believed it to be drug and gang-related and saying they expected revenge attacks.

However, Police maintained their virtual news blackout yesterday ? refusing to confirm that the man held for questioning since Tuesday had been released or to say whether anyone else was in custody.

Other key questions that remained unanswered last night included:

Is the gunman a threat to the public?

What do officers believe was the motive for the attack?

What type of weapon was used?

A spokesman stated that "it would not be prudent" to comment beyond saying that officers are "actively pursuing all leads".

Meanwhile, all but one of the victims have now been released from hospital. Both the men ? one of whom was hit in the knee and the other who was hit in the arm and both knees ? are recovering at home.

The woman, who was shot in the foot, remains at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where she was said last night to be in a stable condition.
