tyrials, Bermuda team manager Mark Trott revealed yesterday.

Striker Philip Clarke and versatile defender Neil Paynter, both 24, will travel to Premier Division team Coventry City for at least two weeks of trials.

Paynter was originally lined up with a trial with Third Division team Scarborough but the opportunity to join Coventry City was too good an offer to pass up and now Trott will send off a letter to Scarborough on Monday telling them of the change of plans.

There is still a possibility that Paynter will still go to Scarborough at the end of the trials with Coventry.

Briton Mark Georgevic, a lawyer with local firm Cox and Wilkinson arranged the trials with the club. He has been a shareholder at Coventry for the past 10 years and can remember the day he began supporting the club -- November 7, 1970 -- when he watched the Sky Blues beat Manchester City 2-1.

Georgevic approached Trott about three weeks ago interested in setting up trials for the players after first speaking to Coventry chairman Peter Robins.

"I spoke to the chairman about the middle of May, it was close season in England and clubs are always looking for new players,'' Georgevic explained yesterday. "I had seen Philip Clarke play in the Haiti match but I haven't seen Neil Paynter play. From what people have said about Neil he has a very good chance.

"When I was talking to Peter Robins I mentioned that Bermuda was doing very well in the World Cup and that some players were going to Scarborough and how Meshach Wade did very well last season.'' Georgevic, who has been in Bermuda just over a year, is impressed with the talent here. "I saw Philip come on against Haiti and he made a great difference,'' Georgevic said. "He's got the physique and could make it.'' Georgevic is awaiting a fax from new manager Bobby Gould on Monday to confirm the trials, but says he is "99 percent sure'' the trials will come off. "I think it's good news for Bermuda for two players to go to a Premier League team on trials,'' Georgevic said.

"If they've got the ability and work hard they will be given the opportunity.

Meshach Wade was such a success that I hope Coventry also get a couple of players who will be a success. I hope Philip and Neil do me proud.

Georgevic will be at Bermuda's match tonight to see Paynter play for the first time. He is also hoping to get another look at Clarke, who will likely come on as a substitute.

Georgevic feels Gould, in his second stint as manager at Coventry, will have plenty of knowledge to pass on to Clarke, especially being a former striker himself.

The 1987 FA Cup winners have a friendly match against Kuwait's national team on July 12 behind closed doors and the intention is to play both players in part of the match.
