Charities Age Concern and the Bermuda Diabetes Association have teamed up to hold a "50+ Lifestyle Expo" to showcase products and services for Bermudians over the age of 50.

On Saturday, November 14, a day of activities, lectures, exhibits and workshops will be staged at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) and around Hamilton.

A breakfast and a lecture about the ocean-liner, the Queen of Bermuda, will begin at 8 a.m. at The Masterworks Foundation Museum in the Botanical Gardens. At 9 a.m. the annual Bermuda Diabetes Association Walk starts at Bulls Head Car Park and ends at the BUEI. Participants of the walk will be granted free admission to the "50+ Lifestyle Expo" when they reach BUEI.

"The Minister of Health, Walter Roban, will open the expo at 10 a.m. and activities will go through 6 p.m.," said Claudette Fleming, Executive Director of Age Concern. "The day will include information workshops, special offerings, entertainment, give aways and much more."

The "50+ Lifestyle Expo" aims to bring under one roof a variety of products and services that are important to the over-50 population.

Throughout the day Age Concern's LINK programme partners will provide information, advice and services in areas of concern for Bermudians aged over 50. A variety of local businesses and organisations will be represented at the expo covering everything from internet banking to eye health.

The LINK programme consists of businesses or organisations who have partnered with Age Concern to provide a service or product to meet the needs of people over 50.

"Age concern is working diligently to ensure that all sectors of Bermuda's economy are given an opportunity to work with our LINK programme to provide innovation and creativity in improving the lives of older people on the Island," said Paget Wharton, the chairman of Age Concern.

At 11.45 a.m. motivational speaker Mr. Dennis Rahiim Watson will deliver the Keynote Address. From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. the day will culminate with a theatrical production of 'Emancipation: A Love Story' courtesy of the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs.

According to Mr. Wharton, Age Concern aims to increase the number of LINK partners over the next year and to have all people over fifty in Bermuda become members of Age Concern.

Free transportation will be available all day to BUEI and will be provided by the HWP train. Beginning at Masterworks at 9 a.m., the train will run until 6.30 p.m. Drop off sites include City Hall, the Hamilton bus and ferry terminals as well as the flagpole on front street.

Entry to the "50+ Lifestyle Expo" is free for Age Concern members and $15 for non-members.
