with a knife wound following a brawl at a Hamilton nightclub, The Royal Gazette has learned.

And the 25-year-old victim was arrested by Police in connection with a separate incident after receiving medical treatment and being released from the hospital.

A woman who was in Odyssey nightclub during the early hours of Sunday morning revealed yesterday that there was a fight inside the club which resulted in it closing early.

A Police spokesman reported earlier this week that there was a fight outside the club between two women.

But the club-goer -- who asked to remain anonymous -- said she was in Odyssey with some friends when a one-sided fight involving a group of men broke out.

"There was a bunch of guys picking on one man and it ended up in a fight.

"Everyone was beating up this one guy and they all went flying over the bar when he tried to get away. The bouncers were not able to even hold them back.

They were carrying on and someone stabbed him.

"Then the ambulance came and took him away. They closed the club early -- at about 2.15 a.m. -- and kicked everyone out in the street.'' A second source confirmed that a fight had occurred inside the nightclub and alleged that a man was knocked "close to unconsciousness'' before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.

A Police spokesman confirmed yesterday afternoon that a man was taken to the hospital with a shallow knife wound in the early hours of Sunday morning.

And he said the man was arrested upon being released from the hospital in connection with another matter.

The spokesman could not say where in Hamilton the man was injured.

On Monday the Police reported that Front Street outside the club had to be blocked off at around 2.30 a.m. on Sunday morning after a large crowd gathered when two women began fighting.

A Police spokesman at that time said no complaints or charges were laid in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, a cab driver -- who also asked to remain nameless -- said he would not be recommending the club to tourists in the future until the club cleaned up its act and got rid out of the Rottweiler dogs that were outside the club at night time.

Attention was drawn to the dogs by Double Dip owner Doris Brooks last week when she claimed the animals had caused her to lose business.
