Rangers and Stars on collision course
Premier Division rivals Western Stars and Southampton are on course for yet another title deciding bout.
Anxiously awaiting next Saturday's Premier Division championship showdown at St. John's Field, the league's two-top teams were kept apart during yesterday's Premier Division KO Cup semifinal draw held at the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control offices.
Stars have got the better of Rangers already on two occasions this season, defeating them in the Camel Cup semifinal and the inaugural final of the Combined KO Cup at Somerset Cricket Club. The teams first league meeting at Southampton Oval was hit by torrential showers.
Cleveland were originally drawn against league leaders Stars at Wellington Oval, however, the Eastern Counties side will now have to seek an alternative venue as legendary West Indies' Test fast bowler Courtney Walsh is also due to play in an exhibition match at their home ground on the same day.
St. David's and Southampton will do battle for the fourth time this season at Lord's - Rangers emerging victorious on the previous three occasions.
Both matches will take place on Sunday, September 15.
In the First Division KO, league champions, PHC are faced with a tricky match against unpredictable Police at Police Field, while the eventual winner of the rescheduled match between Willow Cuts and Devonshire this Sunday will have the appetising prospect of meeting lowly Social Club in next weekend's semifinal at a venue also still to be determined.
The match between Cuts and Devonshire was postponed last Sunday out of respect for former Devonshire player Cory Smith who was tragically killed in a horrific traffic accident last Saturday.
Southampton Rangers' Junior Western Counties side showed their more seasoned counterparts how it should be done last Saturday.
Facing Willow Cuts in the final at Southampton Oval, the young Rangers amassed a whopping 265 for four in their allotted 30 overs, before dismissing their opponents for a meagre 57 runs in just 12 overs.
Malachi Jones top scored for Southampton with 52 retired, while Ramen Rijiwardena also retired his bat on 51, Dwia Blyden cracked an unbeaten 22, while Lamont Brangman 18, Derek Brangman 23 not out and Andrew Francis 20 also chipped in with useful contributions.
Blyden was also the pick of Southampton's bowlers with three for five, and Jones, who was presented with Man-of the-Match honours, had an amazing two for none.
