Cablevision founder Mr. Gavin Wilson is seriously considering entering the UBP Paget East primary.

Mr. Wilson said last night: "All I can say is that it is under active consideration.'' Also expected to run is Senator and Minister of Management and Technology the Hon. Grant Gibbons.

"I am considering it, and when I make a final decision I will make a formal announcement to the Press,'' he said last night.

UBP members planning to run are expected to throw their hats into the ring at a 5.30 p.m. meeting tomorrow of the Paget East UBP branch.

Yesterday chairman Mr. Campbell McBeath said he had not yet received any application forms from those wanting to fill the seat vacated by the Hon. John Stubbs, who died last week.

Would-be candidates have to get signatures from 10 of 57 paid-up UBP members in Paget East, said Mr. McBeath.

These 57 people have been members for at least six months -- and are the only ones entitled to nominate, he explained.

Mr. McBeath pointed out, however, the requirements for voting by UBP members in a primary were different.

"Should there be a primary, those who have been a member for at least 14 days can vote.'' At the last general election Ms Aurelia Burch and Mr. Geoffrey Parker ran in Paget East for the Progressive Labour Party and National Liberal Party respectively.

Neither yesterday confirmed whether they would contest the primary.

Party meetings will be held shortly to discuss possible candidates.

Dr. Stubbs' death from cancer last Tuesday meant a by-election would be held in the constituency within two weeks.

A vote is required to fill the seat with a new representative, according to the Parliamentary Election Act.

Paget East is considered one of the safest for the UBP.

Yesterday afternoon the Anglican Cathedral was packed for the funeral of Dr.

Stubbs.

Politicians and relatives of Dr. Stubbs turned up for the service, which was followed by a private burial at St. Mark's Cemetery, Smith's.

In lieu of flowers, mourners were asked to contribute to Patients' Assistance League and Service (PALS).
