At Warwick Academy the student body is divided into four houses: Morgan, Patton, Rhodes and Robertson.In the nineteenth century the most outstanding headmaster came to the school by the name of Hugh Houston (1853-1883). After he retired he was remembered as an amazing teacher and a great scholar. Hugh Houston’s school was attended by boys of different ages all over the country. Amongst all the boys that attended a few were still remembered such as the Reverend Dr. Francis Landy Patton, later to become the president of the Princeton University. Patton House was named after Dr. Francis Landy Patton. Chayah Guishard of Patton said she wanted to be Primary House Captain because she wanted to do something new and have an accomplishment.Morgan House got its name from one of the earliest benefactors named Mr. James Morgan of Montreal who owned property in Warwick Parish. His generosity from 1918-1928 made possible the extension of the buildings around the quadrangle area. In addition to that he helped with the construction of the assembly hall (now the drama room) and a science laboratory. Trinity Wilson from Morgan House said she took the challenge to be House Captain because it was a chance to represent her house and to be a great leader. Also Trinity said her house is the best because she has a lot of children in her house that never give up.The Headmaster from the early nineteenth century was Mr. R.C Robertson (1895-1928). Robertson house was named after him. Mr. R.C. Robertson had the pleasure of seeing six of his students awarded the Rhodes scholarship. Mika Woods of Robertson House said she wanted to be House Captain because it is fun to be in charge and make Robertson the best team.The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship award in the world. The Rhodes scholarship was founded by a man named Cecil J. Rhodes. Every year 32 young Americans are selected as Rhodes Scholars and go through many tests. People from more than 300 American colleges and universities are selected as Rhodes Scholars. The process in which they are chosen to be Rhodes Scholars involves outstanding academic achievements but also for their personality, community service, and for their common good. The last thing they are chosen for is their potential for leadership.Giovanni Hollis of Rhodes house said he went for House Captain because it is a chance to be a good leader and show how great Rhodes House really is.Everyone supports their house at Warwick Academy but it has been interesting to find out how all the houses got their names.
