specific individuals, Senators yesterday joined the fray over the rejection of Mr. Warren Jones as a potential new principal of Northlands Secondary School.

"If he is not re-appointed, it will be a great loss to Bermuda and to the Bermuda school system,'' Sen. Milton Scott (PLP) said of the popular acting principal. "I call on the Governor not to sign the necessary documents that would give acquiesence'' to the decision.

Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) echoed Sen. Scott's position.

"I find it most unfortunate that after three years as acting principal a person who is qualified for the job'' is not re-appointed, she said.

However, Sen. Gerald Simons (UBP) said that politicians should not voice opinions on the decision, which was made by the Public Service Commission: "It (the PSC) was set up to be independent for a very specific reason: to avoid political interference in the appointment of people to public offices.''
