Sandys North Central

Sandys North Central gave PLP stalwart Dennis Lister his fifth successive win in the 2008 election.

Mr. Lister topped the poll with 556 votes, followed by United Bermuda Party candidate Donald Hassell with 281 votes. There were two spoiled ballots out of 839 total votes.

In the 2003 general election, Mr. Lister received 532 votes against the UBP's Anthony Steede with 262 votes.

The PLP veteran took the old Sandys North constituency with the late Eugene Cox in 1989 and turned it into a PLP safe seat.

Mr. Lister has held it since, although he is now the sole MP for Sandys North Central since the change to single seat constituencies prior to the 2003 General Election.

Mr. Lister was Minister of Youth and Sport and Minister of the Environment in the first PLP Cabinet and served from 2006 until 2007 as Minister of Works and Engineering. – Robyn Skinner
