Students interested in furthering their education in Canada have been invited to take part in an online information session this week.

The virtual talk will offer guidance to people considering colleges and universities in the Atlantic region while travel is restricted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jenny Calder, an international recruitment specialist at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, said: “Normally at this time of year we would come together to offer further guidance to students as they complete their university and college applications, apply for scholarships and continue their research into which institution is the best fit.

“It is important to us that travel restrictions do not impact the quality of support we offer our Bermudian students.

“This is a vital time of year for those preparing to write final exams and graduate, but equally important for younger students who are in the beginning stages of planning for their higher education.”

Representatives from eight post-secondary institutions will be involved in the virtual session – Next Steps to Studying in Atlantic Canada – for prospective students and their families from 7pm on Thursday.

The talk will include advice and information from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada about study permits and visa processes.

A spokesman added: “Following the formal session, registrants will have the opportunity to connect individually with all institutional representatives to ask their questions.”

Ms Calder said: “We are looking forward to speaking with prospective students and their families.

“They can expect to learn about available scholarships and bursaries, working while studying, student life and experiential opportunities.”

Acadia University, Dalhousie University, Holland College, Mount Allison University, Mount Saint Vincent University, Saint Mary's University, St Francis Xavier University and the University of Prince Edward Island will be involved in the session.
