Victory adds up for Robinson House

Robinson House emerged the winner in the fifth annual Spice Valley Middle School math-a-thon this year.

Mrs. D. Burrows, the M3 math teacher, started the first ever inter-house math competition at the Warwick middle school in 1997 and for many years Spice Valley was the only middle school that held such an event.

During the competition, students were divided according to their house teams; Robinson, Tatem and Wilson (the house names represent former Spice Valley principals and Bermudian leaders).

On February 25, the official opening of the math-a-thon took place with performances by the dance group `Fabulous' and Mr. Furbert, drummer of the Bermuda Regiment Band.

The following day, competition between M3 students took place. I was contestant number five for Robinson house. On the first question I was very nervous, but I got over it. My excitement continued on Wednesday and Thursday, although by then I had become a member of the audience.

On Friday, championship day, excitement was high with all students. In the championship round three contestants from each house, one from each class level battled it out for the win. Robinson put in the finest performance and walked away with the gold.
