Criminal justice forum tonight
opinion will be held tonight.
The forum, entitled "Justice and the Prisons -- Have We Got It Right?'', will begin at 7.30 p.m. at St. Paul's AME's Centennial Hall on Court Street.
Canon James Francis will moderate the forum which will include panelists Prison Fellowship Bermuda coordinator Mr. Glenn Caines, Mrs. Shelagh Cooper of the National Symposium on Children At Risk, National Association for Reconciliation co-chairman Dr. Eva Hodgson, lawyer Mr. Richard Hector, criminal justice review team member Mr. Lowdru Robinson, and its chairman Judge Stephen Tumim. See Page 5 for a profile on Judge Tumim.
Judge Tumim, who has stressed the necessity of public input in such a review, last week said: "I'm using it (the forum) as a listening treatment.
"I want to know what people think about the criminal justice system. It is really not very possible in a short time to write a useful report unless I have a considerable feel of how the people of Bermuda see their criminal justice system. So on that basis I hope people will come.
"I hope that by the time we start writing, at least we will have had every opportunity to find out what the people of Bermuda think about it.'' Admission to the forum is free and all are encouraged to attend.
A public fundraiser for Prison Fellowship Bermuda will be held this weekend at supermarkets and in Hamilton.
Accounts have also been set up at the Bank of Bermuda and Bank of N.T.
Butterfield for those who wish to assist the organisation.
