Just tee-rrific!
Three lucky public school pupils are going to the PGA Grand Slam as VIP guests of Premier Ewart Brown when the three day golf championship begins next Monday.
Aaron Lindsey, 11, of Sandys Middle School, Kameron Creighton, 12, of Clearwater Middle School and Julian Johnson, 15, of The Berkeley Institute, were selected with the help of staff from their schools.
They will be able to watch the prestigious clash of the titans of golf, which will be televised to millions around the world on cable channel TNT, from the Department of Tourism's Hospitality Suite.
Accompanied by one chaperone each, the pupils will attend the Grand Slam next Wednesday, held at the Mid Ocean Club in Tucker's Town.
Dr. Brown said: "Golf is a sport that teaches very important life lessons. These students are already playing the game and have already voiced a strong interest in becoming lifelong players and fans.
"I want to do my part to help grow their enthusiasm."
Sandys Middle school principal Dr. Tim Jackson will be chaperoning Aaron Lindsey.
"Aaron's been taking golf lessons so he's so excited to be able to see professional golf live and in person," Dr. Jackson said. "He asks me everyday, 'have you called my parents, have you called my parents?' He's so excited."
Student Julian Johnson said: "When I heard about this, I hoped and prayed they'd pick me. I was so excited when I was picked. I went home to tell my mother and I told her I hope we hit a few balls or I would be able to play with the Premier." Meanwhile, five winners of The Royal Gazette's draw for free tickets for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf have been announced. See photo above
On Wednesday four marquee PGA players will face off in a two-day tournament, also to be televised globally.
