Towlson goal rescues Hood
enabled Robin Hood to score a slim 2-1 victory over last placed M.R.Onions in a Commercial League, Division A, game at Shelly Bay on Saturday.
Towlson came through with the clincher with just 10 minutes left, delivering the crucial blow after a spirited Onions squad had levelled through Bill Spencer after 78 minutes.
Hood had taken a 1-0 lead early in the second half through John McCabe.
The victory left Hood in second place, two points behind leaders BAA Wanderers who maintained their hold on first place with a 3-1 triumph over Exiles at Shelly Bay.
Lobster Pot, who entered the weekend tied for second place with Hood, slipped down the tables after a 2-2 draw with Vasco Mariners at BAA.
Veterans Allan Turner and Ronan Daley teamed up for Pot's late equaliser, Turner blasting the ball home following a defence-splitting pass from his team-mate. Peter Jinks scored the other goal for Pot while Joe Baruso netted both goals for Vasco.
An exciting match at Somerset saw PHC Raiders threaten Fire Services before going down to a 5-2 defeat. Troy Furbert spearheaded the firemen's attack with two goals while others came from Randy Boyles, Carlos Caisey and Brian Fubler.
Raiders, who remained competitive until they began to tire early in the second half, got their goals from Brian Anderson and Chris (Butch) Furbert who hammered home a penalty after Bo Saggar had fouled.
In B league action, leaders Tuff Dogs were stunned 3-1 by second placed St.George's All-Stars at Berkeley field.
James Pace netted twice and Cal Rayner the third for All-Stars. Robby Almeida netted for Dogs who trailed 2-1 at the half.
Valley hammered Bermuda Pest Control 7-0 at Shelly Bay with Donovan Betty and Kevin Isaac each hitting two goals. Others came from Zane Bolin, Kai Simmons and Kevin McNeil.
At Devonshire Rec, Wolves Pack defeated Somerset Extros 3-1 on goals by Mandy Thomas, Paul Douglas and Cecil Hendrickson while Ronue Cann got the lone tally for Extros.
The other game saw Devonshire All-Stars beat Belco 3-1 at St. John's field, Sandys Boyles scoring for Belco.
