Throughout the years the name Pitcher has become synonymous with St. David's cricket.

Now young OJ Pitcher, the latest in a long line of distinguished St. David's players carrying that name, has his sights set on the English Fullers County First Division, where he is set to link up with former senior national coach Roland Butcher at the Pyford Cricket Club.

Scheduled to arrive in the UK on May 13, the gifted 18 year-old St. George's Cup Match and Bermuda senior national team all-rounder has already set himself short term goals and stepped up his personal training to ensure he arrives overseas in top physical condition.

"Presently my aim is to just go out there and settle down quickly," said the Bermuda College student who hopes to major in Business Administration.

"They say that the ball tends to swing a bit more over there. So it may be a little more difficult making the necessary adjustments, but I'm definitely looking to settle in quickly and put up some good totals.

"I've been putting in some extra jogging in the mornings and trying to keep my fitness level up to par," he added, while noting that he had already experienced training under Butcher's stewardship during the former England Test player's tenure at the helm of the Island's senior national team.

Pitcher, who likely inherited many of his skills from father Oliver, uncle Arthur and cousins Jeff and Elliot, is also an avid golfer and just last weekend enjoyed a fine outing at St. George's Golf Course, where he placed second in a club tournament.

Her will be accompanied by team-mate Chris Foggo at the Surrey club, and also later on during mid-summer trials with top English county side Middlesex at Lords, the home of cricket.

Although he's expected to be off the Island for the most part of the summer, Pitcher made it perfectly clear that he would be home in time for Cup Match and possibly the final Eastern Counties match.

He will also be here to assist the Islanders during their bid to retain the Camel Cup which they won last year for the first time.

"That's all in the agreement. They (Pyford) allowed for me to come back home for Cup Match," he said.

Pitcher made his Cup Match debut in 2000 and just last season won all local honours with club team St. David's.

He was also recently a member of Bermuda's senior national team during the America's Cup in Argentina.

After his stint in England, he intends to return to Bermuda to continue his studies at Bermuda College.
