Butcher to the rescue as Foggo falls cheaply
Chris Foggo found out just how tough life can get in the Surrey County League on Saturday after he was caught at short leg for two runs to a superb delivery, as Pyrford Cricket Club were made to sweat it out for their second successive win of the season.
After reducing Wallingford Cricket Club to 148 all out, Foggo and his colleagues got off to a disastrous start chasing the modest total on a pitch that offered plenty of movement to the bowlers.
And after finding themselves precariously placed at 15-for four, coach Roland Butcher was called upon to tidy things up with a match-winning century (104 not out ) as Pyrford crossed the winning total with four wickets in hand.
"Chris got quite a nasty delivery," said Butcher from Surrey, England. "The ball just kept rising off a good length, hit the shoulder of the bat and popped up to short leg. Then it was left to the old man to dig them out of a hole!"
Foggo's highest score to date is 78 during a pre-season friendly match, but since then he has endured a lean spell with the bat.
However, coach Butcher feels that the youngster just has to remain patient and said that he still has faith in his Bermudian player.
With OJ Pitcher due to arrive tomorrow at the Woking-based club, there will be no time to shrug off any jetlag as Butcher expects the talented youngster to be suited up for the evening's training session.
Pyrford play at Leatherhead Cricket Club on Saturday.
