Bermuda habitats memorialised
The Bermuda Habitats commemorative stamp issue portraying all facets of Bermuda's heritage, culture and history has been released by the Bermuda Post Office.
The Bermuda Philatelic Bureau and Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo announced the release of the stamp on August 18.
The series of six stamps and an Official First Day Cover depict scenes from full size dioramas that recreate Bermuda's most unique habitats. More habitats can be viewed at the Bermuda National History Museum.
This collection is the fourth commemorative series issued for the year following the Quincentennial of the Discovery of Bermuda, Made in Bermuda Part Three and the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
It comprises:
10 cents Sandy Beach ? shows the Ruddy Turnstone and the Sandpiper rummaging through seaweed in search of food.
25 cents Fresh Water Pond ? highlights the regular winter visitor Least Bittern.
35 cents Rocky Shores ? displays Bermuda's rocky shores, home to the Long Tail.
70 cents Upland Forrest ? features the Eastern bluebeard, one of the Island's few native land birds.
85 cents Upland Forrest ? The upland forest once covered most of the Island but now has given way to development. The first settlers encountered the now extinct Northern Saw-whet Owl.
$1.00 Mangroves ? Bermuda's Mangroves are the northernmost in the world are home to the yellow crowned Night Heron and red land crabs.
First Day Covers ($5.00), Sets ($3.25) and other philatelic products can be purchased at the Bermuda Philatelic Bureau or at any sub-post office locations.
Orders may be pre-paid for collection or mailing on the day of issue at the General Post Office or any sub-post office.
The next issue, Bermuda Greetings Part Four will be released in October.
