Stout dumps seventh seed
World Racquets champion James Stout (pictured above) advanced in the US Open Real Tennis tournament when he defeated seventh seed David Woodman three sets to two on Monday.
The championship, which is being held in Philadelphia, witnessed the unseeded Stout come from behind to advance to the second round at the expense of his fancied opponent.
The Bermudian lost the first two sets 6-4, 6-5 but regrouped to take the next threes 6-5, 6-3, 6-5 to book his place in the quarter-finals.
Stout's next opponent is Real Tennis World number two Camden Riviere.
Defending champion Rob Fahey had to withdraw from the singles tournament due to an injury but will still be playing in the doubles.
Fahey last year completed the Grand Slam, winning all the major tournaments and was chasing the Double Grand Slam until his setback.
He has held the title since 2004.
Real tennis is slightly different from Racquets, both played on special indoor courts.
Real tennis is the original racquet sport from which the modern game of lawn tennis, or tennis, is descended. It is also known as jeu de paume in France, "court tennis" in the United States.
